Hi, I'm Calvin Trieu
Calvin Trieu is a performance coach and doctoral researcher in exercise physiology, studying how athletes adapt when they train for strength, endurance, and power at the same time from a physiological and metabolic standpoint.
He holds a Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska Omaha and is completing his PhD through Concordia St.Paul University, with research focused on concurrent training, physiological adaptations, and metabolic flexibility.
His work has been published in the Journal of Applied Physiology. He completed the Pre-Script® Level 3 Elite Performance Practicum, a week-long immersive working with top NFL Combine prospects under the direction of Dr. Jordan Shallow hosted at Yo Murphy Performance.
His writing has been published in BarBend and he has been featured as an expert in REP Fitness.
He works with athletes and high-performers who refuse to pick a lane between strength and conditioning. His coaching connects strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, performance nutrition, and the psychology of sustained output for competitive hybrid athletes, combat sport athletes, and performance-driven individuals who want to train at the edge of what their physiology allows.
Calvin coaches in-person in Denver, Colorado and works with clients remotely worldwide.

Working with Calvin was amazing. I’m a plus-size mom of 3 kiddos. I connected with Calvin, wanting to change my life after my youngest daughter passed away last year. He and I started from the beginning of nutrition basics and worked up to training. I have gained so much knowledge and worked through a decade's worth of bad dieting advice, misconceptions about nutrition, and an overall bad relationship with food and exercise. He’s extremely attentive and supportive. He helped me regain my ability to be a better mom and wife. I’ve taken vacations and done physical things I didn’t think I’d be able to do. I can actually RUN with my kids. I can play tag, crawl on the floor with them, go on walks with them, etc. Thanks to him, I feel like I’ve become a whole new mom and person.
Experience was 10/10. I don’t have anything bad to say. I learned more about what is maintenance for me and understand the basics before I even got started thinking about a cut. I think it was extremely helpful to take it slow and learn and develop the fundamentals first. This was the most helpful thing for me. Not only that but giving grace during hard times and understanding the different seasons of life we are all in.
Calvin was an amazing coach. He taught me much more than I could have learned by simply watching YouTube videos. He was completely in depth with me on a personal level that helped open my eyes and start a transformation for me. He was very encouraging, very understanding of life happening, very flexible, yet he understood how to push you the way you needed to be pushed. He definitely kept the ball rolling! He is incredibly smart with the chemical and physical makeup of the body, and he has great analogies to communicate those things to somebody who doesn't understand quite how the body works. He explains to you the type of fuel, workout regiment you need based on what you tell him you're trying to accomplish with your body. For example, I wanted to get toned and start eating correctly. So to start with, I walked him through my daily life for a while. I logged what I was eating for him, sent him pictures of my meals and he got a baseline for me before we started anything. That gave him information to put together a plan for me. It was very detailed, and he adjusted it accordingly as time went on, and pretty soon we were rocking and rolling! I feel incredible about myself, I feel like I have more energy, I feel motivated, and I love the fact that I can see the results! He uses a very in depth tracking and coaching platform that I couldn't have been happier with! Calvin is an amazing coach who will walk with you through life and I would definitely recommend him!
Working with Calvin was a great process. Always having our weekly meetings at the end of the week held me accountable to get all of my workouts done, even if I wanted to be lazy. A big reason I came to him was to get help on my form to make sure I was doing all of my lifts correctly. I can say this was definitely accomplished. I feel much more confident working out now than I did before I started using him. He was able to come up with creative workouts for me, all within the limits of the equipment I have within my home gym. Before, my workouts were very boring and stale. I would definitely recommend using Calvin as your trainer!
I had a great experience working with you. The help I got with what time and how much I needed to eat prior to training was a serious game-changer in my preparation. Making the switch to add more fiber while I was in a deficit helped keep me full a lot too.
What I valued the most from working with you is how transparent and honest you were. You held me accountable, which I really appreciated, while still being motivating.
